Since 2009, FaIDA has been implementing natural resources management around refugee camps in Dadaab with funding from UNHCR. The project involves restoration of degraded areas in refugee camps, environmental education and livelihood support to host community adversely affected by the refugee presence. This is intended to address challenges posed by hosting refugees and foster peaceful coexistence between the refugees and the hosting communities.

In 2013, FaIDA with funding from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has implemented a restocking program in Fafi Sub County of Garissa County where about 800 families benefitted by receiving five goats each. The restocking was aimed at assisting the families that were adversely affected by the 2010/2011 drought which led to the worst humanitarian crisis in the Greater Horn of Africa including Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Chad and Kenya. FaIDA has also with funding from CRS implemented sanitation and hygiene in Kambioos refugee camp, one of the five refugee camps in Dadaab refugee complex. The project was hugely successful and Kambioos has been rated the best managed camp in sanitation and hygiene.

In 2013, in partnership with IRC implemented a Disaster Risk Reduction project in Jarajilla, Fafi Sub County. The project involved capacity building of the community on disaster preparedness, business skills and disaster management. Several community groups were trained in five locations. Women were also helped to start up small businesses that would help them diversify their livelihood and income sources. The project was very successful.

In 2013, with funding from Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) for host community Water and Sanitation (WASH) support. Under this project, FaIDA constructed two waterpans and drilled two boreholes to help alleviate the water needs for both human and animals. The project had direct impact on the community by providing access to water for domestic use as well as for animals thus reducing the trucking distance and time taken fetching for the precious community, thus more time can be dedicated to development activities.

FaIDA and World Conservation Union (IUCN) has been implementing a multi-year program (2012-2017) on Building Drought Resilience through Land and water management in lower Tana sub catchment area. This project covers parts of Garissa County such as Balambala Sub County and Tana River County such as Bura Tana and Hola. The project focuses on ecosystem based natural resource management to improve provision of goods and services and reduce degradation especially in shared resources along the river basin. The project funded by Austrian Development Corporation (ADC) has been very successful and already discussions are underway to scale up to other regions.

 In 2019, FaIDA has been implementing the Kenya Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (KDRDIP), a Government of Kenya sponsored project that aims to address the impact of forced displacement on the refugees hosting communities. FaIDA is implementing KDRDIP in Fafi Sub County of Garissa County.
